On the first day of this week, we got into prototyping as soon as possible. Below are some of the things we've been doing today.
After the introduction to our new group member, Laurent, we've split ourselves up into teams of two. This way, we could tackle both ends quicklier and put much more effort into polishing up the details.
We've decided to split the concept into two categories: Communicating to cyclists & communicating to drivers. Each "subteam" would tackle on of these problems by delving deep into the mechanics, researching methods of solutions and finding the right products to make the concept a reality.
Below are some images of the working process:
We also made one prototype already, namely the mirror for the driver. One LED-strip was put on the edge of a car mirror that was left over and we attached it to a motion sensor, allowing for the mirror to light up if you come close to it. This functions well as a prototype and allows us to do some further testing.
We also made a doormat with a painting of the pattern that we'd like to use for the projector from the truck. This doormat will be used later to test some behavioural patterns and see how users react to it.
We've done some testing with it, but it didn't turn out to be quite as succesful as expected, as we got a lot of mixed footage, making it hard to create accurate measurements. We'll work more on this tomorrow.
